Nail surgery

Nail surgery is performed in the office under local anesthesia. We use it to obtain a diagnostic biopsy of an atypical nail, treat chronic ingrown toenails, drain infections, or remove benign tumors of the nail bed.

What it is.

Procedures range from a small punch biopsy of the nail matrix to partial or complete nail-plate avulsion (removal) for ingrown nails or persistent infection.

How we treat it.

After numbing the digit, Dr. Hudgens performs the indicated procedure. Recovery typically requires 1–2 weeks of careful wound care and a follow-up visit to check healing. Detailed written instructions are provided.

When to come in.

If you have a recurring ingrown toenail, a non-healing nail-fold infection, or any unusual or pigmented nail finding, an in-office evaluation is the right next step.
