Skin cancer screening

An annual full-body skin exam is the single most reliable way to catch skin cancer early, when it's most treatable.

What it is.

A skin cancer screening is a head-to-toe visual exam, including the scalp, between toes, and other often-overlooked areas. We use a dermatoscope (a polarized hand-held magnifier) to examine suspicious lesions in detail.

Who it affects.

Most adults benefit from an annual skin check. Higher-risk patients (fair skin, many moles, family or personal history of skin cancer, significant sun exposure) may benefit every six months.

How we treat it.

If a lesion is concerning, we'll discuss the next steps with you and may perform a biopsy in the same visit. Most biopsies take only a few minutes. We follow up by phone with results, typically within 5–10 business days.

When to come in.

Schedule a skin check annually, or sooner if you notice any new, changing, bleeding, or non-healing spot.

Common questions.

Does the screening hurt?

No. A full-body skin exam is visual and entirely non-invasive.

Will my insurance cover the visit?

Most major insurance plans cover medically necessary skin cancer screenings. Bring your insurance card; our team can verify coverage in advance if you text or call ahead.
